my little story.
So, this evening, my friends from high school and I went into town to see StarKid’s Apocalyptour show at the Boston House of Blues.
It was awesome. I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone going tomorrow, but I will say that it is just as incredible, if not more so, than SPACE tour was.
But, I have (what I think is) a fun little story.
The way the Boston House of Blues is set up is a little strange. The front of the building is located on Lansdowne Street, directly across from Fenway Park. There’s never any order as to how they set up the line. Sometimes they have it going up the street towards the main drive, and sometimes they have it snaking further down Lansdowne. Tonight, they decided to wind the line down Lansdowne Street, around the corner of the building, along the alley next to the building, and around the back. This did somewhat make sense, because there was a baseball game, and my friend group wound up in the alley, about ten feet away from the back doors.
After waiting for awhile in the alley, the back doors opened. It was a techie. Then the door opened again. It was Dylan Saunders and Clark, popping their heads out. This was still fairly early in the process, and there weren’t a whole lot of us in the alley. No one said anything, no one screamed. The two of them just kind of looked out for a few seconds and then went back inside. Fans were standing around in a little semi-circle near the doors, but they weren’t blocked off from this door at all. The door itself was unlocked (a fan eventually did open the door and peek inside, but they stayed out), and a few more techies and HOB staff members came in and out.
Then, about twenty minutes later, Brian Rosenthal walks out of the doors, through the crowd of people, and casually heads down the street, typing something into his cell phone.
No one said a thing. Everyone just sort of stared at him silently and watched him walk away. No one screamed. People saw him and waved, but that was the only indication that they saw him.
It was really, really strange. Like, I didn’t understand why security let him out that way, right into a throng of fans, but he was very, very lucky that the fans in the alley were mostly older, college kids who understood that he was just going out for a walk. People were super chill, and it still makes me giggle a little bit thinking about it.
He came back through the alley awhile later, and people were silent again. He sort of smiled at everyone and walked back inside calmly, and then we all collectively laughed at ourselves.
A few of the band members pulled a similar move to get to the tour bus that was parked near the alley later, and no one said anything. I think it really says something about the fans when we really all just sat around and hung out for a few hours, donated some money to someone who was doing the Children’s Hospital Walk, and didn’t freak out when the people we had paid money to see walked by.
Random story. Felt like sharing. I really love StarKid shows. :)
